August 2nd, 2024. Reissue Purple Marbled Vinyl
Just before they disbanded, Slowdive put out the album Pygmalion in 1995. It was by far their most abstract album, coming from sugary pop on Just For A Day and the mature, experimental Souvlaki. Where the band attempted to put more song structures in place on Souvlaki, they began to incorporate more elements of ambient electronica on Pygmalion. Tracks like "Blue Skied An' Clear" and "Crazy For You" demonstrate that the songs are still there, somewhere -- they're just buried under more abstract sounds than before.
The album became a cult touchstone, being described as "a stylistic masterpiece" by Allmusic, listed as #12 on Pitchfork's 50 Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time, and BBC Music mentioned "Pygmalion remains Halstead and Goswell's masterpiece". It included the fan favourites "Rutti", "Crazy For You", and "Blue Skied An' Clear".
Pygmalion is available as a limited edition of 2000 copies on purple marbled vinyl, packed in a deluxe heavyweight sleeve with rainbow laminate finish and includes an insert.
