The quartet of McCoy Tyner and Joe Henderson have released an unreleased, previously unreleased, live recording of a performance they gave in 1966 at a club called Sluggs in New York City! This live recording captures Tyner and Henderson, along with bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Jack DiJohnette, performing at New York's lost jazz mecca, Sluggs Saloon, in 1966.
The duo of Tyner and Henderson, who had frequently performed together on Blue Note albums such as "Page One," "Inner Urge," and "The Real McCoy," along with Grimes, who was well known for his work with Albert Ayler and Don Cherry, and DiJonette, who was a young up-and-coming artist at the time. The album is filled with white-hot performances by DiJohnette, who was an up-and-coming young artist at the time. The booklet also includes rare photographs by Francis Wolfe, Raymond Ross, and Robert Porillo, and interviews with Jason Moran, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Nasheet Waits, and Teri Lynn Carrington. This is a work of art.
