If you were asked to define this new wave of artists who are redefining Quebec song, we bet you would spontaneously mention Ariane Roy . A leading figure on the now famous Quebec scene, recipient of the Révélation de l'année award at the 2022 ADISQ Gala , Révélation Radio-Canada 2021-2022 , nominated twice for the JUNO Awards , recipient of the Prix Félix-Leclerc in 2022 , Prix Espoir FEQ and so on, everyone agrees that she is clearly destined to shine among our greatest stars. And even if we forgot all that, it would be enough to mention the brilliant series of concerts Le Roy, La Rose et le Lou[p] , named a historic event on two occasions by La Presse (2022 and 2023) and crowned with the Félix for Show of the Year , to understand that it is one of those that gives us the strength to believe in the future of Quebec music.

Following the release of a first EP, Avalanches (nf) (2021), and a first album, medium plaisir (2022), Ariane made a name for herself by burning up the boards in the four corners of Quebec with a fiery show, highlighting the flashes of brilliance that have carried her since her very beginnings. Jubilant, of an existential and inclusive communion with the youth of today and yesterday, the experience of an Ariane Roy show marks and brings together around a breath of an ardent life that triumphs over the anxieties of our time. Decisive performances at the Printemps de Bourges and the MaMA in 2023, as well as notable appearances at the Francos de La Rochelle and the Paléo Festival in 2024 subsequently opened the doors of French-speaking Europe to her, a territory she intends to return to visit soon.

After two years of incessant touring, Ariane returns with Dogue , a second album that breaks with what she had accustomed us to. Not that we no longer recognize her, but rather that the precious flower that is blooming now has deeper hues than we imagined. Abandoning the clarity of her first airs, she shows herself to us in darker days, the verb more biting, the voice more caustic, in a resolutely contemporary light. Auto-fiction allowing her to stick as close as possible to her truth, the album constitutes a giant leap, even for the prodigy that we already knew. Co-produced with Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir, Les Louanges, Bonnie Banane), Dogue shows its teeth, yes to smile, but at whose expense? We don't care since we can't resist lying down in front of the fangs, hoping to join the pack.
